Small Business in This Tough Economy

Glen Luckman Small Business By Michelle Stiriz

Day after day we are hearing about the economic crisis that is plaguing our nation. We know that we are not in the same situation like society was in the thirties, but none the less we are scared what the future holds. Many individuals are taking numerous precautions that range from cutting budgets to declaring bankruptcy. Is there an end in sight for this crisis? Or are we doomed to live from pay check to pay check without any luxuries at all?

Many small business owners are optimistic about our economy and feel this is just a temporary glitch in the overall scheme of things. As they say “This too shall pass.” Though many businesses are making cuts and some even folding, it is the small companies that are staying afloat and staying positive that things will eventually get better. These businesses are the ones that will prosper once the economy evens out and the crisis ends.

Some small business began their adventure just before we entered into this crisis. Terrified that they made a big mistake, they have either failed and got out or are working hard to be prepared for success when the country gets back on its feet. At times it feels like we are sitting and waiting and then waiting some more. However, our waiting may pay off if we are patient and smart, as well as proactive and resourceful.

Internet businesses especially have a very high probability of success in that it is still a growing entity in this economy. The internet is a source of information, not just products. When internet business owners offer information and knowledge to their customers, the products are the main example of what they are looking for, therefore increasing sales. As internet business owners, we need to keep in mind that not only are our customers looking for a great deal, they are looking for answers to a question and we are the ones they turn to.

Small businesses can survive in this tough economy. We just have to be positive and willing to make sacrifices for the greater good of the company. Success is the result of passion and smarts with a hint of fear, but the knowledge that failure is not an option.
